A little New York fabric

Hi Everyone - Just thought I'd show you my New York fabric purchases.  I may have to bring an extra suitcase next time to take advantage of the great prices!

I saw these rhinestone initials and thought they would be a perfect way to sign my "Victorian Gothic" quilt currently in the works...sometimes you just need a little bling, right?




A few little extras I picked up at the notions store.



City Quilter creates their own New York city fabric.  I picked up some subway map fabric and a night scape.



Thought the postcards and city landmarks fabric would also work together.  The quilt store also has a quilt gallery where they display art quilts.  If you do travel to New York and plan on visiting the store, don't forget to take a look at the quilts on display in the gallery.




I took one look at this wild fruit fabric and thought to myself...Carmen Miranda!  It made me laugh, so I had to buy some.  Managed to find a few fabrics to go with it.




Couldn't resist the retro cowboys and cowgirls on the right and the purses will be perfect for an I Spy quilt...someday.




Loved the fresh look of the flowers and the classic look of the turquoise fabric behind it.




I only bought two yards of this Anna Griffin fabric and when I returned two days later, it was all gone.




I am trying to add brighter colours to my fabric stash...brights on a dark background count, right?




Thought this would be perfect for a baby quilt.




This was too much fun to pass up.




This is all they had left of the Laurel Burch fabric...no wonder if went so quickly, the colours are incredible.



Fabric, fusible web and scissors

Hello Everyone!  I've been playing a little with my fabric and some fusible web...just trying out different things.  Saw this in a book I bought, Skinny Quilts and Tablerunners and thought I'd give it a try.  See what you think.

Here's the blank canvas...I had to add pieces to my fabric to make the block big enough as I was determined to only use fabric from my stash for this project.




I had eight pieces of fabric with fusible web that I cut into various shapes, so I had a great selection to play with.  It's sort of like making paper snowflakes...remember that? 




Continue to add fabric..




..and more fabric..




..still more..




Don't be afraid to layer..it's all good.



When you are happy with your design, fuse that fabric!



Here's another one I made.





I could follow the pattern and make a table runner.




Or I could make a table topper or a wall hanging..this has an Andy Warhol feeling to it.




I thought I'd add a little more to this one.



And to this one.  There much better.  Now off the blocks go into my "to be quilted" pile!

Oh yes, I did it, I actually bought this fabric.

Hello everyone!  While at my local quilt store last week, I saw the cheesiest fabric I've ever laid eyes on...and I couldn't stop laughing when I did.  Naturally, I had to return and pick some up! 



Here it is, the cowboy special.  The look on my daughter's face when she saw the fabric in my sewing room was priceless!



For you Twilight fans....doesn't this guy remind you a little of Taylor Lautner...aka Jacob?  My daughter thinks so, although that might just be the whole shirtless thing! lol

Something different for me

Hi everyone!  I'm still puttering around, not spending nearly enough time in my sewing room as I would like, but that's life.  I pulled out my Cool Blues quilt again and have made some progress.  I'm determined to just get this one finished and then send it off to be long-armed...no way I'm going to attempt to quilt this baby.

Stopped in to see what was new at one of my local quilt stores earlier this week and came home with some fabrics that are truly out of my comfort zone.  I do have a project in mind for these fabrics, but you'll just have to wait and see.

I have been very, very naughty

Hello everyone!  Well, the time has come for me to 'fess up and let you know what it is I do during the day while the work crew is busy installing our new floor.  I started packing up the sewing room earlier this week so the painters can get in here and do their thing...at some point...soon...I hope. ;-)

Sooooo, no sewing room means I just have to go check out some LQS's and see what new and wonderful fabrics they've received since my last visit...a mere seven days ago.  I'm not kidding.    Really.

When the time comes to pack up your sewing room, that's when you discover just how much fabric you really have..



I always thought my stash was on the small side...really...

 

But it seems I have enough to fill two plastic containers and four banker's boxes...so apparently I have more fabric than I realized.  Not that it's stopped me from buying More fabric!

I have been on a gray/green/purple binge these days for some reason.  I have no pattern in mind for any of this...but something must be percolating in that little brain of mine, I hope.

 

Here are a few of the greens...I love that psychedelic fabric on the right...way out of my comfort zone.

What I've been up too..

Hello everyone!  I'm still here, not much happening in the way of sewing, but I did manage to get my February Scrap-Bee blocks done.  The house is chaos, but the floor and tile will be put down soon (I hope)!  In the meantime, I've been spending my days out and about town, checking out quilt stores, perusing the quilt section at the library, hanging out with quilt friends (thanks again Sue for the sewing day!) and planning this Thursday's inaugural meeting of the Calgary Sew and Sews, a little quilting group I've put together.

Here are February's Scrap-Bee blocks.  The challenge was to use five pieces of fabric or less, make sure they had angles in the block and to use bright fabrics, with a special request for turquoise and/or yellow in the blocks.

 

I have to admit, I have been very, very good at the fabric stores.  This is my biggest purchase (so far), I couldn't resist the greys and the purply-grey when I saw them and I had to try the new organic cottons in the hot pink and chartreuse.

 

I bought one meter of the purple...



and 3 meters of each grey.  Those greys are just fabulous and are popping up everywhere this year.  Yum!
