What was I thinking?

Hi all -  My final category for my UFO's are the 'what was I thinking' quilts...really...what. was. I. thinking.

Caution: the wavy striped fabric in the following quilt may cause nausea, dizziness or hysterical fits of laughter.  You have been warned. ;-)

Cheers,
Mary

Oh yes, this was going to be a bento box quilt.  I even took a class and was oh so excited.  Then I made a block, or two, or ten and wondered why nobody had stopped me!!!  Will be rippin' this sucker apart at some point.

The requisite watercolour quilts x 2.  Why, you ask?  I don't know.  I really don't know.

Made these squares in 2010 and well, this looks ok, right?  I mean they aren't too bad...

Sadly, this was the end result...again, what was I thinking?  I had to take this one apart last year, I just couldn't stand it any longer!  Lesson learned - just because the fabric is all from the same line, doesn't mean they have to be put together in the same quilt!  :-)

Maybe next year

Hi all - Ok, so today I'll show you the second group of UFO's I have.  I started some of these projects in 2010 and well, doesn't look like they'll be finished this year either....:-)

Cheers,
Mary

Started this hexie project in 2010 and loved it then, but soooo not going to happen this year!
Took a great Craftsy class with Carolyn Waugh...I stitched, I slashed...I put it away!!

I actually have two of these quilts in my UFO pile.  Started them both in 2010 and forgot all about them!!  The other quilt is also black and white but has hot pink for the center square.  There's nothing really wrong with either of these projects, I'm just not feeling it...you know?

Reassessing works in progress

Hi all - Inspired by all the 2012 end of year reviews found in the quilting blogosphere, I decided to organize my sewing room and pulled out  my UFO's.

Once the deed was done, I hung each project up on my design wall, sat and stared at them for a bit and put them in one of three groups.

I'll show you the first group today - those projects I will get done, for sure, this year.  Each one is nearly finished and I just need the slightest of nudges to get them done:

My paper-pieced stars - just add a border, quilt as desired and voila, all done!

Not sure if I'm up to quilting such a large project - still a chicken in that respect.  Send this one to my friendly neighbourhood long-arm quilter!

Add scalloped border to my 1930's quilt and I can check off another project as done.

Have to take out the quilting from this one...not happy with my thread selection.  And it looks like I'll have to do something about that bump on the left side of the quilt.

Cheers,
Mary

Word of the year - 2013

Hi all - Last January, I found this lovely post by Victoria Findlay Wolfe (scroll down to her January 29th post to see what I'm talking about) of Bumblebeansinc. and 15-minutes of play and well, I was totally inspired by it.  So much so in fact, that I kept thinking about the idea throughout 2012 and finally realized that my word for the new year would also have to be -

I've had enough - time to get the divorce papers signed, no more nonsense, I want to move on;

I am enough - not perfect for sure, but am good enough as I am;

I have enough - there's food in the pantry, fabric on the shelves, clothing in my closet, friends and family to laugh with....

ENOUGH.

Mary
